Joan Marchant

Joan Page Marchant (February 21, 1939-August 5th, 2018)
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Joan Page Marchant, age 79, passed away at her home in North Salt Lake on August 5, 2018. She was surrounded by many family members when she returned to her heavenly home due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
Joan was born in Francis, Utah on February 21, 1939 to her parents, William Alma Page and Annie Lucina Larsen Page.   Her father passed away in 1951 when she was only 12 years old and her mother never remarried.   Though economically they may have been considered poor, she enjoyed a rich legacy of love and the example of a strong and caring mother.
Joan was a very spiritual girl by nature and always loved attending church.  She felt the spirit of the Lord at a very young age and stayed faithful to the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout her life.  She had a deep testimony of the power of prayer and set a wonderful example as she often prayed fervently for guidance and wisdom from her Heavenly Father.  She knew her husband to be, Duane, even as a school girl and he was known to tug on her hair to get her attention.
Joan graduated from South Summit High School and then continued her education in nursing at BYU and the University of Utah to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.  Once Duane returned from his mission in Australia their love story continued when they married in the Salt Lake Temple on October 13, 1961.
Joan and Duane became parents to 6 children (4 daughters and 2 sons) and their home was filled with love and laughter.  Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her family and she freely gave constant love, care and service.  She delighted in the successes and happiness of her husband, children and grandchildren and loved them all so much.
She enjoyed music and found particular satisfaction in singing and listening to the Hymns.  She had a sixth sense which allowed her to find anything made of chocolate within a 10-mile radius and was even known to dip into her children’s Halloween candy or Duane’s hidden box of See’s chocolates.  She loved all people, especially babies and little children, and they were drawn to her too.  She was known to have strong opinions, to speak her mind and she enjoyed one-on-one conversations where all of the details could be shared.  She could nurse even the sickest of family members back to health and could calm even the fussiest of babies right into peaceful sleep.
She enjoyed garden roses, stuffed animals, lunch with her friends, long Sunday drives, being out in nature, and the color baby blue.
She was fiercely loyal to all she loved and was someone who you could always count on to be in your corner.  She had a deep sense of patriotism and civic duty and she volunteered to help with the elections for many years.
Joan served in many church callings and was known for preparing beautiful and inspiring Relief Society lessons.  In her later years, she and Duane were able to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Washington, Tacoma Mission for the Church Education System.  With her husband she was greatly loved by the young people she worked with and this mission was a great blessing to her.

She was always happy and kind, even after she no longer was able to remember the many memories, faces and details of her life or the people around her.  Even her care-takers developed great fondness for her because of her sweet and gentle nature.
Joan is dearly loved by many and her presence will be greatly missed.  Her example and legacy will live on through her posterity and we will always be grateful for her love and example.
The family wishes to thank all of those who have given kind and caring support and service to Joan during these last few years and for the many prayers that have been rendered in her behalf.
Survivors include her husband, Duane Harding Marchant, North Salt Lake, Ut; Children and spouses, Michelle Johnson (Benjamin), West Jordan, UT; Heidi Frodsham (Bruce), St. George, UT; Marianne Willes (Keith), Bountiful, UT; Allison Corey (Daniel), Orem, UT; Joseph D. Marchant (Bernice) Farmington, UT; Thomas P. Marchant (Monica) Castle Rock, CO; brother Ken L. Page of Bountiful, UT; sister Florinda Darcey, Wanship, UT; and 21 wonderful grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, brothers Ray Page, Rex Page and sister Ina Richards.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, August 11th at the Foxboro Stake Center, located at 954 West 1100 North, North Salt Lake.  There will be a viewing on Friday, August 10th from 6-8 PM and on Saturday prior to the funeral from 10-10:45 AM at the same location.  Interment will be in the Peoa, UT cemetery under the direction of Crandall Funeral Home of Kamas, Utah.
