Jean C. McNeil
Kamas – Jean Carpenter McNeil, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015 in Sandy, Utah. She was born on January 30, 1926 in Kamas, Utah to Samuel Alfonso and Sarah (Evans) Carpenter. Jean married Elmer Earl McNeil in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple on June 29, 1945. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2001. Jean loved the Kamas valley and the people in it. She was always kind and considerate and put the needs of others before her own. She was always cheerful and had a smile on her face when she would greet anyone. You could find her at Senior’s every week setting up the tables and chairs and helping to prepare for the days activities. The community honored her for her service by proclaiming her the “Grand Dame” of the 2014 Fiesta Days parade for which she was very grateful. Although small in stature she had a large impact on those around her. She worked for the South Summit School District as a teacher’s aide and had a special bonding with the children she worked with helping them learn how to read better and have more confidence in their abilities because she could relate to them at their level. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and loved to go the temple with a group of sisters at least once a month. She loved horses and you would often find her either at the Kamas Valley Riding Club performing in the rodeo or parade, dressed as an Arabian Princess in the parade, herding cattle on the range with the men or just pleasure riding with family and friends. Her other great love was square dancing. She and Elmer taught countless youth, young adults and others how to enjoy this great and fun loving type of dance. She also had a beautiful voice and loved to sing in the ward choir for many years. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. Happy Trails Mom till we meet again.
She is survived by her children: Brad and (BerNeta deceased) McNeil of West Jordan; Jeff and (Judy) McNeil of West Jordan; Tracy McNeil of Kamas, also a daughter-in-law, Sheila McNeil ( Ron) of Ivins, Utah Also 20 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Elmer, she is preceded in death by her Father Samuel Carpenter, Mother Sarah Evans, Son Ronald McNeil, Sisters Lorna Butler and Clea Hughes and Brothers Tim and Merl Carpenter.
