Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, and Friend to all, Jack L. Meeks, 88, of Mountain View, Wyoming, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jackie Lloyd Meeks was born on March 9, 1927, in Cumberland, Wyoming to Joseph William & Merna Jean Rounds Meeks. He was the oldest of 12 children. Dad attended school in Mountain View and quit after 10th grade to help support his family during the depression. He always had a story to tell about how he and his brothers, cousins and friends enjoyed raising “hell” while growing up in Mountain View.
During World War II dad served his country by joining the US Army in 1945. After being honorably discharged, Dad returned home and worked in the Timber business in the Uinta and Wasatch mountains. This is where Dad met the love of his life Esther Melissa Harnden. Dad and mom were married May 28th, 1949 in Coalville, Utah. They were married 67 years. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. In 1950, the twins, Boyd & Lloyd were born, Colleen, was born a few years later followed by Jack and then Arlie, in 1962.
Dad worked for the Wyoming Highway Department for 28 years, supervising in Farson and Granger. During these years, Dad continued to enjoy the great outdoors by hunting, fishing, camping, trapping, snowmobiling, four wheeling and trolling for arrowheads. In 1988, dad retired and he and mom moved back home to Mountain View, where they continued to enjoy family and the outdoors.
Dad is survived by mom (Esther), Boyd (Penny) of Fort Bridger, Lloyd (Misty) of Rock Springs, Colleen (David) of Dietrich, Idaho, Jack (Robyn) of Mountain View, and Arlie of Longmont, Colorado, 19 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, brothers Blaine Meeks, of Mountain View, and Forrest (Connie) of Alpine, UT. Dad is preceeded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters, one grandson and one great granddaughter.
Dad was a most compassionate man and never turned down anyone in need. His passing has left an unfillable void in all of our hearts. He will be deeply missed. The family would like to thank Christy Smith and the staff of Best Home Health Care for their compassionate, loving care that they provided our dad.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, December 8th from 6-8pm at the Mountain View LDS church. December 9th a viewing will be held prior to services from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.. Funeral will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Fort Bridger Cemetery.
