Ilene Eastman Matthews
Ilene Eastman Matthews returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on January 6, 2016 in Evanston, WY surrounded by her family. Ilene was born in a little log home on the family ranch in Woodruff, UT on October 1, 1939. She was the third child of Delmore Weldon & Leath Virginia
Eastman. She spent her growing up years enjoying her horse, her dog, the outdoors & being with her family. Ilene was a spunky, fun loving girl & enjoyed cheerleading and going to dances. She graduated from South Rich High School in 1957. She was swept off her feet by a handsome young man named Keith Alvin Matthews from Evanston, WY whom she met on a blind date in September of 56' and they have been sweethearts ever since. Keith and Ilene were married on May 31, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple. To this union they were blessed to add 6 children, Douglas Keith, David Scott, Dawn Kayleen, Nancy Irene, Daralynn Sue (deceased) and Brent Eugene. Keith and Ilene have resided in their family home in Almy for 52 years. Ilene was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in which she loved to serve in the many callings that she held. Mom will always be fondly remembered for the poems and plays that she wrote and shared, which are a treasure to her family.
Ilene is survived by her husband Keith, sons Doug (Sandra) Matthews, Dave (Cindy) Matthews of Evanston; daughter Kayleen (Johnny) McCoy of Santaquin, UT; daughter Nancy (Russell) Thomson of Randolph, UT and son Brent (Kim) Matthews of Meridian, ID; 22 grandchildren, 25 1/2 great grandchildren; sister Faye Connelly of Evanston; brother Paul Eastman of Willard, UT; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Doug & Leath Eastman, infant daughter Daralynn Sue Matthews; brothers Bruce, Dennis, Danny and Jay Eastman; sister Ranae Call; grandson Jeremy Matthews and great grandson Weston Buchanan. Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at the Evanston Regional Hospital. We could not have asked for more tender care than was shown by the doctors and nurses who lovingly cared for Mom.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Almy Ward Chapel, at Oak & Elm Streets. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Crandall Funeral Home, 800 Uinta Street, Evanston and on Saturday at the Almy Ward Chapel from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will follow the service at the Evanston City Cemetery.
