Helen Faye Crook, passed away on May 11, 2012 at Rocky Mountain Health Care in Evanston.
She was born on August 10, 1912 in Oklahoma to William Eugene and Jessie (Jones) Crook. She moved to Wyoming when she was eight months old, and grew up helping on the Mule Creek Ranch until the drought dried every one out. She graduated from Moorcroft High with a normal teacher’s certificate. She taught the Oil Well School for a period of time, but got pneumonia and had to stop teaching. She married Donald Lee Byrd. They later divorced.
She was an artist, a member of the Audubon Society, and an ardent conservationist. She wrote a book entitled, “My Fight to Be Me”
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Evanston City Cemetery under the direction of Crandall Funeral Home.
