Gloria Rosebud Shurtleff Jensen, 90, passed away January 26, 2022 after a valiant struggle with colon cancer. She was born September 20, 1931 to Mary Erickson and Wallace Vincent Shurtleff.
She was born in Forsyth, Montana. Her parents and 6 older sisters had moved after losing their cherished Thunderbolt Ranch to taxes during the depression. While she was still a baby, the family returned to their beloved Bridger Valley where Gloria lived all but two years of her life.
Gloria attended school in Mountain View, and before graduating, she started working at the Uinta County State Bank. She was working there when she married Sherman Arthur Jensen on November 18,1950 in Lyman, Wyoming, the same day Sherman got his draft notice.
After Sherman returned from Korea they made their home in Granger, Wyoming. In 1954 Sherman and Gloria moved into the home Sherman’s uncle, Carl Jensen, had built in Lyman, Wyoming. She lived in this home the rest of her life.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held numerous callings in both the Ward and Stake. She especially loved teaching the Blazers in primary, her 16-year-old Sunday School class, and visiting the “older ladies” as Relief Society President. She also loved serving in the Ogden Temple twice a week for many years.
She was determined, fiercely loyal, could not find fault with anyone she loved, and could be stubborn; but mostly she was the kindest person in the world and the epitome of generosity. She simply could not see anyone in need and not give.
She returned to working part time at the bank in 1967 and loved working there. After her mother-in-law passed away, she took over her Avon route and continued serving her customers until a few years before her death.
Gloria loved her family, being outdoors, and was an avid sports fan, especially cheering for her local High School team. She will be remembered by her family as an example of charity, love, and faith. Her grandchildren will miss her singing happy birthday to them every year and filling them full of vitamin C and ice cream treats.
She leaves behind her children, Bradley (Karen) of Springville, UT; LuJean (Jeani) (Ernie) Field of Syracuse, UT; Bruce of Salt Lake City, UT; Jolane (Jeff) of Fruit Heights, UT; Brian (Alysia) of Lyman and Eagle Mountain, UT; Colette (Randy) of Lyman, WY; 22 grandchildren, and 54 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Sharon Jensen of Mountain View, Wyoming.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Sherman; parents Wallace and Mary Shurtleff; her sisters Evelyn, Lavina, Margaret, June, Mary Ellen, Donna, and her brother Jonathan; her in-laws Leah and Thorvald Jensen, Udell, Allen, Rodney, Craig, and sister-in-law Eileen Burnham; sisters-in-law Gwynda Lindsey Jensen and Judy Green Jensen.
Our family would like to thank Kaylee and Felicia from Best Home Health and Hospice for their tender and loving care in helping our mother in her walk back home.
