Glen Robert Hurdsman, also known by his nickname of "Dempsey," was born on March 2, 1929, in Ogden, Utah. He was a lifelong resident of Mountain View, Wyoming, where he graduated from Mountain View High School in 1947. Glen passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, surrounded by his family at his daughter’s home in Robertson, Wyoming. His life was marked by love, service, and dedication to those dear to him.
Glen married Fae LaRee Wall in the Salt Lake LDS temple on January 4th, 1955. Glen and LaRee both served in many church callings.
Glen’s career was diverse and fulfilling. Following his marriage to LaRee Wall he traveled shearing sheep while LaRee provided food for the shearing crew. He spent eight years working with Uinta County Road and Bridge before dedicating 29 and a half years to the Lyman Department of Transportation. Glen continued to shear sheep as part of the family business for many years, demonstrating his commitment to both family and work.
In addition to his professional life, Glen was a man who cherished the great outdoors. He had a profound love for hunting, camping, and fishing, enjoying every opportunity to spend time in nature. Glen especially relished moments shared with his children and grandchildren, often taking them on Sunday drives and allowing the kids the thrill of taking the wheel.
A man of character, Glen was known for his easy-going personality and ever-willingness to lend a hand to those in need. He possessed a big heart, strong work ethic, and an impressive ability to repair just about anything. His skill in operating heavy equipment was a source of satisfaction for him, adding to the many hats he wore throughout his life.
Glen proudly served in the Army, having been drafted in February 1951. He was assigned to the engineering branch during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. His service included time at the Nevada nuclear test site, reflecting his commitment to his country.
As a collector, Glen found joy in working on clocks and took pride in the life he lived and the family he raised. He was a cherished father and loving grandfather, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness.
He is survived by his loving family: son, Kim and Robin Hurdsman of Lyman, Wyoming; daughter, Glenda and John Rhodes of Robertson, Wyoming; daughter, Julie Iorg of McKinnon, Wyoming; son, Vaughn and Tina Hurdsman of Mountain View, Wyoming; sister, Helen and Carl Larson of Lyman, Wyoming; sister-in-law, Sheryl Peterson of Fort Bridger, Wyoming; 11 grandchildren, Ryan, Kimberly, Gina, Weston, Katie, Miranda, Tyler, Dana, Diana, Deena, Whitney; 34 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren, with one more on the way, and also many nieces and nephews.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Daisy Chapple Hurdsman; his beloved wife, Fae LaRee Wall Hurdsman and her parents, Lloyd and Marie Wall; brother Lawayne Hurdsman; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; two nieces; one nephew; and one great-great-grandson.
