Fred Kallas, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 2, 1921 in Cumberland, Wyoming the son of Mike and Erma (Robinson) Kallas.
He married Jane E. Barton in Evanston, Wyoming on January 24, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple on January 25, 1962.
He joined the Navy August 7, 1942 and served his country during W.W.II. He was a member of the American Legion.
He worked at the Sinclair Station in 1946. Fred managed Wooley’s Automotive from 1949 to 1971. He owned and operated Kallas Automotive from 1972 until his retirement in 1986. Played Bass Fiddle in the City Band and at the State Line; planted and grew a great garden; He loved his Jeep and garage, and loved to “tinker”. He could fix anything.
Fred was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as a Bishop for 10 years, in the Stake Presidency, High Priest Group Leader, Home Teacher, and Seminary Teacher, and served 22 years, as an Ogden Temple Worker,. He was his brother’s keeper and was a great infulence in many people’s lives. Fred loved his family, his chuch, his customers, his friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jane, and children, Mike (Kathy ) Kallas of Evanston; Fred D. (Meg ) Kallas of Ogden, Utah; Diane (Fred) Richins of Evanston; Kevin (Michelle)Kallas of Evanston; and Scott (Tanzee) Kallas of Evanston Also 21 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Sue Kallas, his parents, a brother Jack, and a sister, Marie Wagner
Funeral service will be on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Evanston Elm Street Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Crandall Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church Monday from 10 to 10:45.
Interment with military honors will be in the Evanston City Cemetery.
