Eugene (Gene) Herman Zadra passed away November 8, 2015 in Ogden, Utah surrounded by his family. He was born on February 16, 1922 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to Timothy and Theresa Zadra. His parents were immigrants from Austria, so they spoke their native language in their home. When Gene started school he spoke no English. He stayed in First Grade and extra year so he was able to speak and write in English.
Gene graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1940. Shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he received his “Greetings Letter” from the U.S. Government. Rather than being drafted into the Army he and nine of his friends from Rock Springs joined the Navy. He was assigned to a Destroyer and served as a gunner. He saw action but many of the duties of his ship were providing supplies to other ships and soldiers.
After Gene’s discharge from the Navy, he met and married Edith Cuthbertson in 1959. Together they had one son, Eugene Timothy Zadra. They later divorced.
Gene worked for Mountain Fuel for 20 years and then for Lyman High School as a custodian until his retirement.
He married Marian Bradshaw Charles in 1969. Together they enjoyed fishing, camping, trips to Lava Hot Springs, and going south for the winter months. Marian passed away in 2000.
Gene is survived by his son who lives in California, step children Bob Charles (Lyman, WY), Cherlyn Jones (Green River, WY) , Dee Charles (Veyo, NV), Kim Charles (Mountain View, WY), as well as several cousins, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister (Erma), wife, a brother-in-law, and a step-son.
Funeral services will be held Friday November 13, 2015 at St. Helens Catholic Church at 11:00 am in Ft. Bridger, Wy. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-10:45 am prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Ft. Bridger Cemetery
