Eugene Benjamin Martin died February 6, 2011 following a short illness. He was born October 13, 1928, the son of Benjamin and Mamie Zemp Martin. He was born and lived his entire life in Evanston.
Gene worked at the Martin Standard service Station from 1943 to 1963. He liked to tell the story of his participation in the reenactment of the Pony Express that occurred in 1960. He owned and operated the A
&
W Drive In from 1964 to 1980, and Martin's Mini Market from 1971 to 1976. He was a licensed real estate agent, and worked in that field for several years.

Gene was an excellent swimmer in his youth, and worked at the Evanston pool as a certified lifeguard. During World War II, male employees were scarce. Gene left junior high school for two hours every day to give his father a lunch break from the service station.
He was very involved in politics, serving as a Uinta County Commissioner from 1975 to 1979, as Evanston's mayor from 1982 to 1986, and on numerous boards and assodations, including the State Ubrary Board. He was invited to attend the inauguration of John F. Kennedy, and was friends with many national and state poIitidans. He was most recently appointed to the Underground Water Board by Governor Dave Freudenthal.
He is survived by his wife Diana, sister laVon Palmer, stepchildren Dick Norton (cathy), Susan Heyborne (Kevin), Marian Smith (Gene) and Unda George (Tom), nine grandchildren, and eight greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Crandall Funeral Home on Friday, February 11 at 10:00 a.m. The graveside services will be conducted
