Emmitt Mcneil

December 16, 1930 — July 27, 2014

Our dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, Emmitt McNeil, left this life July 27,  2014, with most of his loving family by his side. We miss him so much, but take solace in the fact that he is now with dear ones that have passed on.

Emmitt was born December 16, 1930, in Francis Utah, the son of John Alvin McNeil and Sarah Jane Prescott. He graduated from South Summit High School in 1949.  He was drafted into the Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War.  The service he gave to his country was one of the achievements he was proudest of in life.  His family was well aware of the love he had for his country and the reverence he had for our flag.

Emmitt married Bonnie May Gines October 14, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple.  They were the parents of four daughters, Debra, Lori , Jeri , Brenda.  Bonnie May passed away December 4, 1982.

He married Bonne Priestley June 4 1983.  He became the loving stepfather to Meridee, Stephanie, and Melissa.

His favorite title was “Grandpa”.  He was the grandpa of 30 grandchildren and great grandpa to 40.  Emmitt loved each one of them.  I think they all thought they were the favorite.

All of his life Emmitt loved horses.  He was a true cowboy.  A grand daughter called him one of the “last John Wayne’s.”  Being on a farm, or out in a hayfield was his favorite place.

To earn a living he worked as a hard rock miner and heavy construction worker.

Emmitt was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He was a true follower of Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife Bonne, daughters Lori (Rod Atkinson), Jeri (Kip Bigelow), Brenda (Craig Hicken), step daughters Meridee (Mark Carpenter), Stephanie (Phil Norris),  Melissa Averett Smith, 30 grandchildren, 40 great grand children.

Preceded in death by his mother and father, first wife Bonnie May, daughter Debra (Jack Clegg) and grandson Neil and great grand daughter Ryleigh.  Emmitt was the last surviving child of 3 sisters and 5 brothers.

Your family loves you and will miss you grandpa.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 30 at 11 am at the Kamas, Utah ward house 100 West Center.  There will be a visitation Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 pm and Wedneday starting at 9:30 am. Interment will be at the Marion Cemetary.  Arrangements have been provided by Crandall Funeral Homes.
