Elma Ruth Hanks Sims, age 78, passed away at her home in Lyman, Wyoming on October 17, 2016. She was born to Reed Hamilton and Mary Elizabeth Harris Hanks on August 13, 1938 in her grandmother’s home in Evanston, Wyoming.
Ruth grew up on the family at Lone Tree, Wyoming where she learned the value of hard work. She was bright and articulate and desired and education. She went to live with her aunt Eunice in Provo, Utah where she graduated from Provo High School. She went on to attend the University of Utah and then St. Mary of the Wasatch College where she received a Bachelors Degree in education. She later received her Masters Degree in education from the University of Indiana. She was a lifelong learner, always seeking more knowledge. Ruth taught elementary school for 35 years in Indiana and touched many lives. Her love of education and learning has been an inspiration to many over the years. She married George Simms in Scipio, Utah on April 9, 1994.
Ruth has lived with her nephew Gary Condos and his wife Jana for the past ten years. She was an integral part of their family. She loved spending time with all the nieces and nephews and they loved being with her. They often spent time playing games together. Ruth loved all animals, especially her sweet dog Betsy. She enjoyed sitting outside at her home in Lyman and watching the birds.
Ruth is survived by one sister, Reta June Allred of Vernal, Utah and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband George Sims and six siblings; Reed Hamilton Hanks, Jr., Earl William Hanks, Eunice Elizabeth Hutchinson, Ella May Krishano, Percy George Hanks and Leah Jean Seegmiller.
Memorial services will be held, Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 11 am at the Lyman LDS Chapel. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the Lyman Cemetery.
