Ted was born December 3, 1933, son of James Earl Sr and Sina A Mellus in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Ted always loved racing, and always driving fast. He was a former Soap Box Derby Champion and stock car racer in his younger days and had a million stories to tell about traveling the states and meeting all kinds of people. He also served 4 years in the US Navy.
Ted met and married Beverly Alice McKissick, daughter of Mack and Zelpha McKissick on March 21, 1955. They had one daughter Tracy Lynn.
Ted drove semi-trucks and laid carpet and linoleum for many years until moving to Evanston, Wyoming where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for Utah Power and Light from which he retired.
Ted was a master in all he did and his passion was his family, his home in Manila Utah, fishing, hunting, and of course his supped up golf cart. He was a friend to everyone he met, always telling stories. As a family, we will miss his love and wit forever more.
Ted is survived by his daughter Tracy Lynn (Woody) Smith; grandson, Forrest Ted Smith and Jose Campos Smith; sister Dana James; sister-in-law Joyce Mellus both of SLC, Utah; brother-in-law Gary (Freddy) McKissick of Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews whom he cherished; best friends and confidants Dave and Jeanine Johnson of SLC, UT; Dave and Tootie Hoover of Manila; and Evelyn Rupp of Heber, UT.
Ted was preceded in death by wife, Beverly, his parents James Earl and Sina Mellus; brothers Gary and Jim Mellus; sisters Carol Lee and Pat Mellus; brother-in-law Kip James; brother and sister-in-law Stan and Geraldine Heiner; and mother and father-in-law Mack and Zelpha McKissick.
