Duane Albert Shupe passed away July 8, 2015, at Evanston Regional Hospital. Duane was born on April 3, 1928 in Sidney, Nebraska to parents Joseph Albert and Helen Aines Oldfather Shupe.
Duane enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17 and was a World War II and Korean War Veteran. He was stationed with the occupation forces in Japan at the end of World War II. Duane was given the honor of taking the Honor Flight to Washington, DC.
He married Vernocia Dotson in 1949 in Hay Springs, Nebraska. To this union two sons were born; Douglas Duane Shupe and Kim Alan Shupe.
Duane retired from the Union Pacific Railroad as an engineer.
He was very civic minded. Past member of several organizations and was past president of the Union Pacific Employee Club, a job he held for several years, until finally retiring. He was a member of the American Legion, The Evanston Elks lodge, a toastmaster, and served on the Veteran Board. He never met a stranger.
He is preceded in death by; his parents, step-mother, brother Kenneth Shupe of Longview, Washington, brother Gerald Shupe of Mesquite, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
Duane is survived by his wife of 66 years, Vernocia Shupe, children Kim (Lucy) Shupe of Green River, Wyoming, Douglas (Judy) Shupe of Sydney, Australia, six grandchildren; Racheal Shupe, Justin Shupe, Kely Heil, Craig Shupe, Kimberly Schuman, and Katherine Graham; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Crandall Funeral Home with a viewing to be held one hour prior to the services. Interment with military honors will be held at the Evanston Cemetery.
