Duane C. Calder passed away at his home surrounded by his family in Evanston, WY on Monday, August 22, 2016. He was born on February 22, 1928 in Garden City, Utah to Thomas and Iola Calder. He married Lela Gean Felter in January, of 1946 in Coalville, Utah.
Duane served his country honorably during WWll and was a member of the American Legion Post 41. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Duane spent most of his life behind the wheel of a truck and recorded a million miles without an accident. He drove for Newman Transit, Carebou, Hutchinson Oil, and Chris Switzer. He loved driving his truck. He was an avid outdoors man and loved hunting, fishing, camping, riding horses, riding snowmobiles, and water skiing, and was a member of the Evanston Boat Club. In 2010, Duane was named as the Grand Marshall of the Evanston Cowboy Days. He was very proud of this award. More than anything else, Duane loved being around other people and especially kids. His greatest joy was found in spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Lela Gean; his son, Dennis Duane (Denise) Calder; daughter Carolyn (John) Burton; daughter Jody (Herb) Padigimus; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, LaRue Simpson, and a niece, Amy Devries, both of Roy, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Iola; brother Norman B. Calder; grandson Randy Duane Calder; and granddaughter Holly Leigh Burton.
A viewing will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm at the Sage Street LDS church in Evanston, as well as one hour prior to services which will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 12 noon at the Sage Street LDS Church. Interment will follow at the Evanston City Cemetery.
