Douglas Gines

Douglas Cerel Gines, beloved spouse, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and uncle passed away peacefully at his home in Kamas, Utah on January 1, 2020.

Doug was born to Ceril and Lilly May Gines on March 14, 1934 in Tabiona Utah.  The early years of his youth were spent in Tabiona working with his father, uncles and cousins in the logging industry.  His family later moved to American Fork to obtain medical help for his little brother Billy.  From there they moved to Kamas where he attended South Summit High School and met the love of his life, Betty Lou Stevens.  On May 28, 1953 they were married for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple and began their family of two boys and two girls.

His Family was his focus in life as well as service and devotion to his Friends and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served well as he magnified his calling in whatever capacity he was called.  He was a hard-working loyal employee, a self-taught horseman/veterinarian and a real cowboy. Family and friends would often take a horse with a health problem to Doug for an accurate evaluation and recommendation.  He always had a nice team of draft horses/mules and some of the best saddle horses around.  He developed many friendships through his love of horses as he participated in the Kamas Valley Riding Club, Heber - Kamas Chariot Association, Utah High School Rodeo Association and yes, a little horse trading along the way.

His true joy in life was not based on his own accomplishments, which were many, but the accomplishments of his family and the young people he helped in the rodeo arena.  He spent countless hours with those who were willing to put in the work and they learned not only rodeo skills, but valuable lessons of life.

He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always showed that love by attending and supporting their many activities.  He made each of them feel that they were very special and important to their grandfather.  He will be greatly missed, however his love and influence will continue to bless the lives of all he came in contact with.

Survived by:  wife Betty Lou Gines: sister Helen Jones; son Tim (Lori) Gines; daughter Lana (Craig) Goodwin all of Kamas, UT; as well as 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren & 1 great-great-grandchild.

Proceeded in death by parents Ceril & May Gines; sister Bonnie McNeil; brothers Jerry, Billy,& Howard; son Neal Douglas Gines; daughter Marla Lou Harris; son-in-law William Jay Harris & great grandson Brigg Cerel Gines.

Funeral Services will be held at the Kamas 1st Ward Chapel (100 W Center St., Kamas, UT) on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 11:00 AM.  Viewings will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and prior to the funeral on Monday from 9:30 – 10:45 AM.  Interment will be in the Stevens Cemetery in Oakley, UT under the direction of Crandall Funeral home, Kamas, UT.
