Dorothy Marchant

March 24, 1927 — January 27, 2015

Peoa, Utah—Dorothy Marie Marchant died peacefully at home January 27, 2015. She was born March 24, 1927 in Coalville, Utah, the first of six children born to Owen Douglas and Margaret Rees Wardell.
Dorothy accomplished much and lived an exemplary life. She was a devoted and beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was a caring and loving companion to her husband, Norval, and was his primary care-giver during the last years of his life. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various positions, including ward Relief Society President. Dorothy was an accomplished artist and completed many beautiful, award-winning oil paintings. Also, she devoted many hours teaching family and friends the joy of oil painting.
Dorothy took special joy in the beauty of the world. She enjoyed hiking and family outings. She had a keen observation of all things living and growing and this transferred to her talent of capturing the earth’s beauties on canvas. The true joy of her life was her family. She spent time with each of her children and grandchildren teaching them about nature, the Gospel, and showing them, by example, how to simply love life. Dorothy will be tremendously missed by all who were privileged to know her.
Dorothy married Norval Marchant on May 31, 1946. Their marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1954. They were the parents of one daughter and five sons. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 64 years; her daughter, Connie, infant son, Douglas Ray and sister, Remona Atkinson.
Surviving are her sons Jack (Dixie), Brent, Jody (Barbara), and Philip (Valerie); 16 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings, Colleen Crandall (Orland), Gale Wardell, JoAnne Holyoak (Bill), and Jay Wardell (Darinda).
Funeral service will be held in the Peoa L.D.S. Ward Chapel, at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2015. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday evening and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Peoa Cemetery under the direction of Crandall Funeral Home, Kamas, Utah.
