Donald George Borba (Sonny), born August 12, 1943, passed from this life on October 5, 2016, at the age of 73 while deer hunting in the backcountry of Wyoming. Don was born in Modesto, CA, to Manuel and Frances Borba. He was preceded in death by his mother Frances, his father Manuel, and his brother Roger. He is survived by wife Debbie of Evanston, WY; son Shawn and wife Sasha of Park City, UT; son Sonny and wife Bethany of Levelland, TX; daughter Sherry of Florence, KY; sister Lee of Delhi, CA; and brother Gary of Albany, OR. He is also survived by grandchildren Nicole and husband Daniel, Lynsi, Dakota and wife Becca, Madison, Ethan, Gracie, Gavin, and Tanner and many loving friends and extended family.
Don served in the Army as a paratrooper while stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky . He also served as a highway patrolman in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Later in life, he and wife Debbie resided in Ferron, Utah for 19 years and worked as a supervisor for Utah Power & Light. In 2001, they retired in Evanston, Wyoming, to actively enjoy the great outdoors of fishing and hunting. In the summer months, Don and Debbie would visit Flaming Gorge and troll the massive reservoir for the biggest fish! In the fall, they would camp on the mountainside and hunt for deer and elk. And in the winter, you could find Don ice fishing on the local lake near Evanston.
Don adored his family and supported each one of them in whatever endeavor they were exploring in life. He was a “Mr. Fix-It” with his ability to repair and rebuild anything and everything with an eye for perfection.
Don’s witty sense of humor, passion for the outdoors, and love for his family and friends will be greatly missed.
