Don Welling

April 7, 1929 — May 10, 2016

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at his home on May 10, 2016.
Don Udy Welling was born April 7, 1929 in Riverside Utah to Karl G. and Effie Welling.  Dad graduated from Bear River High School, where he participated in many activities, including FFA.  He met his eternal sweetheart Afton Campbell in Logan Utah.  They were married June 29, 1949 in the Logan LDS Temple.  They were blessed with 12 children.  Dad was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served in many callings, including being the Bishop two times, the High Council, Stake Missionary, Teaching Seminary, and faithful Home Teacher.  Dad loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, golfing and camping with his family.  He also loved doing word search, and Facebook on his IPad to keep track of his family.  He enjoyed watching baseball and the Utah Jazz.  Dad served the community of Evanston as City Clerk for 21 years.  He also served on the school board for the Uinta County School District and on the Insurance board for the Wyoming Association of Municipalities.
Dad loved family gatherings on Holidays, Family Reunions, or any other activity that would bring our family together, especially Sunday evenings at their home. He loved memorizing poetry, had a quick wit, sense of humor and loved to tease.
He is survived by his loving wife Afton and their children, Calvin (Kathy) Welling of Eden Utah, Diane (Curtis) Rex , Brad (Chris) Welling, Brian (Kellie) Welling, Jean (Dave) Anderson, Jill (Jim) Smith, David (Wendy) Welling, Gary (Stacey) Welling of Evanston Wyoming, Janet (Steve) Alkire of Cheyenne Wyoming, Mikal (Jenny) Welling of Evanston Wyoming.  86 grandchildren, 103 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jack H. and Blain K. Welling, sister, RaNae Brough and an infant daughter. A daughter and son in law, Susan and Mike Lake. Grandchildren Zachary Welling, Melissa Anderson, Jamedon Welling, and a great-grandchild Jaxon Kaholoaa.
There will be a viewing on Friday, May 13 at the Evanston LDS Church located at 201 Sage Street from 6-8 pm.  Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Saturday the 14th of May with a viewing one hour prior at the same location.
The family would like to thank Best Home Health and Hospice, Evanston Ambulance, Evanston Regional and Salt Lake Regional Hospitals and Dr. Simon and his staff.
