Daniel Morgan Smith

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, Daniel Morgan Smith. From the moment he was born he contained a zest for life and a mischievousness to his core. As he matured, our towheaded little boy grew into a funny, tender, and strong young man. 

He was his father Dallen's right-hand man. From a three-year-old handing tools to his dad while they worked on a car, to a strong young teen racing to finish shingling the roof before an oncoming storm. He outworked any man and was known on the ranch in Canada, even at six years old, as the boy who could outride any of the seasoned cowboys.

He grew from his mother Jayna's exuberant little helper, to a young man willing to listen to her dreams, talk projects through and make them a reality. With his bare hands he raised physical walls of safety as he built the family home. He provided emotional security with his listening ear, trademark grin and insightful advice. Daniel was treasured by his mother, from the peaceful evening moments cradling his tender newborn head, to the final hours, her hands entwined with his, easing his suffering. 

Daniel had a personal relationship with his Savior Jesus Christ. This was apparent in his eloquent, heartfelt prayers and the way that he lived his life in service of others. As a disciple of Jesus Christ he was preparing to serve a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints following his high school graduation. 

Daniel is idolized by his nieces and nephews, adored by his parents and siblings, and is a role model to his peers. He lived life with a fast paced exuberance. He was an allstar teammate for his Rich Rebel brothers and a stalwart friend. Even in his final hours he was concerned with showing his love to the people who meant most to him.

You are dearly missed, our sweet Danny boy. Your infectious grin and big heart will always inspire us. We thank God for every moment we were blessed to have with you. We are comforted by the certainty that you are closer to each of us now, and by the hope that we will one day be encircled by your warm embrace as an eternal family. Until then may you be our guardian angel. 4 ever a Rebel. Forever our son and brother. It truly has been exhilarating! 

Daniel Morgan Smith passed away the morning of February 14th, 2025 at the age of 18. He is survived by his father Dallen Reed Smith, his mother Jayna Cheney Smith, his siblings: Virinia (Justin) Hovland, Ailina (Sam) Davidson, Anthony (Colleen) Smith, Miria (James) Bennett, Benjamin (Caeleigh) Smith, Tiriana (Spencer) Hall, Katharina Smith, his grandfather Delbert Cheney and 11 nieces and nephews.
