Cleo C.Carr, age 85 of Evanston, WY passed away Tuesday February 24, 2015 at the University of Utah Intensive Care Unit after a short illness. Cleo Carr was born February 1, 1930 to the late Blanche May and Cecil Carr in Marlinton, West Viriginia. Cleo was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Amarillo Texas for over 20 years before she moved to Evanston.
Cleo is survived by one sister Naomi Chapman (Proctorville, OH). Sisters and brothers who proceeded her in death were Creola Carr of WV, Wilma Carr of WV, Sarah Carr of WV, Dreama Dilley of OH, Curtis Carr of Virginia, Craig Carr of OH and Charles Carr of WV.
Miss Carr retired in 1999 from her job as a sawmill technician at Maywood Industries, in Amarillo, Texas. She loved playing Bingo, watching her soap operas and watching wildlife out her window. In her younger years Cleo enjoyed travelling around the country and finding adventure on her frequent vacations with her friends and family. She was quite a clotheshorse always wearing her hair curly and upswept, high heel shoes, freshly painted nails and bright red lipstick. She has been to Boston, Washington D.C, and short day trips around Texas and the southeastern states.
In 2006, she moved to Evanston, WY with her niece Becky and her husband Dean Crum. There she became an important asset to the family, providing them with immeasurable stories of growing up in the Allegheny Mountains and what it was like to live through the depression era of the late 1930’s and early 1940s. Before moving to Amarillo – Cleo had numerous colorful occupations such as a nurse’s aide at Marlinton Memorial Hospital, a telephone switchboard operator and a well-liked waitress French’s Diner. She was a true believer in working hard, keeping the faith, and putting trust in God.
Cleo will be deeply missed by her family and friends however her pioneer spirit will go on forever.
No services are planned, and she will be buried in the Mountain View Memorial Cemetery in Marlinton, WV.
