It is with profound sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Christopher David Staats, cherished father, son, and brother, on May 26, 2024, in Waterloo, Iowa. He was 35 years old.
Christopher is survived by his loving parents, Beth Johnston Goodwin of Evanston, WY, and Alan David Staats of Phoenix, AZ; his beloved daughter, Avala Staats of Waterloo, IA; stepson Bryson Kruse of Vinton IA, his grandfather, Murray Vincent Johnston Jr. of Oxford, PA; his siblings, Heather Johnston Boyne of Alexandria, VA, Devon Ann Boyne of Middletown, DE, Noel Boyne Salzano of Fairfax, VA, and George David Staats III of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by five nieces and nephews and many extended family members who will miss him dearly. Christopher's long time partner Aurial Kay Brown passed away on June 4, 2024. Christopher is preceded in death by his grandmother, Judith Brainerd Johnston.
Born on June 2, 1988, in Greenwich, CT, Christopher graduated from Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix, where he was actively involved in the ROTC program. He furthered his education at Paradise Valley Community College. Christopher later moved to Waterloo, IA, where he worked as a Sales Representative with Mediacom for nine years. His dedication and hard work were recognized through numerous awards, and he was greatly admired by his colleagues for his positive and upbeat attitude.
Christopher was a devoted father who cherished his family, especially his time with his seven-year-old daughter, Avala, Bryson and their mother, his long time partner, Aurial Brown. He delighted in attending hockey games with Avala, Bryson and Aurial, enjoying family game nights, and barbequing at the park. Rehoboth Beach, DE, held a special place in his heart, as it was a cherished destination for family vacations during his childhood, and a place he loved to revisit over the years. His friends and family will always remember his kind spirit and his ability to bring laughter to any situation.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held on August 2, 2024, in Newark, DE. His family extends their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. Christopher's warmth, kindness, and keen sense of humor will forever be etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
