Carmine Rozzo

December 13, 1931 — March 28, 2023

Evanston

Carmine “Oddie” Rozzo was called home Tuesday, March 28, 2023 with his loving family by his side.

He was born December 13, 1931 in Manhattan, New York to Giuseppe and Antonetta Tedeschi Rozzo. Those who met him knew him as “Oddie”. His commitment to protect and serve as a police officer, a son, a brother, an uncle, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a great grandfather, and a legend to all he met.

He was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus in Florida. He retired after 20+ years as a police officer with the Cooper City Police Department of Broward County, Florida.

In 1997 he moved his wife, daughter and granddaughter to Evanston where he continued his love for painting, reading, and learning the histories of the mountains. He loved going on paranormal adventures with his granddaughter and her friends.

He enjoyed cooking for all, cooking up a feast, and if you left his home hungry, “It was your own dang fault.”

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, his doors were literally always open.

He also enjoyed watching “Cops” with his great grandson.

Oddie is survived by his two children, daughter Rita Rozzo and son Joseph Rozzo both of Evanston; two grandchildren, Rebeka (Patrick) Rozzo of Evanston and Joseph “Joey” Rozzo, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; two great grandchildren, Damien Rozzo and Akilah Rozzo both of Evanston; and two nieces, Marie Rozzo-Fagan of Florida and Christina Zerillo of Colorado.

He is preceded in death by THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE, Winifred “Winnie” Rozzo; his parents and a sister, Victoria Rozzo.

The family would like to sincerely thank Ann LaRocco, Best Home Hospice and all the medical staff at Evanston Regional Hospital for all their continued care over the years with him to the very final moment.
