Carl DeWitt Hofer

May 15, 1934 — December 4, 2024

Evanston

Carl DeWitt Hofer passed away on December 4, 2024, at his home in Evanston, Wyoming surrounded by his family.

Carl was raised in Granger, Wyoming and moved to Lyman, Wyoming when he was a young boy. He had very fond memories of Granger and always hoped to return there. Carl married his high school sweetheart Carol Lue Field on December 12, 1952, in Lyman, Wyoming. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in November 1978. Carl worked on a dairy farm in Lyman, Wyoming for his dad until they found the ranch of their dreams in Millburne, Wyoming and they were able to purchase it. There they raised their 7 children and enjoyed working and living on the ranch. After a few years of drought, the difficult decision was made to sell the ranch. He then spent a few years working for other ranchers and then at gas stations. In 1992 Carl and Carol Lue served an LDS mission in Mendoza, Argentina. After returning from their mission, they started Hofer Oilfield Services, a hotshot company, where he worked until 2022 when he was told by his Dr. to retire at 88 years young. During this time, they moved to Evanston, Wyoming. They enjoyed traveling all over seeing new country with their business. Carl always worked hard to provide and care for his family. He was known for his honesty and hard work ethic which he passed on to his children. Carl enjoyed watching his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids playing sports and various activities.

Carl will be deeply missed and is survived by his wife Carol Lue Hofer, his children Cindy (Joe) Hickey, Bonnie Montague, Jana (Dennis) Olson, Lucy (John) Bowns, Neil (Gracy) Hofer, Mistie (Bruce) McGovern, Casey (Becky) Hofer; 20 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren along with some bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren that he cared deeply for. He is also survived by sisters Sue Stadmiller, Dolores Platts, and brother Grant Hofer.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Hertha Hofer, brothers Fred Eugene Hofer, Wayne Hofer, Jay Hofer, grandsons Carl Mathew Gray, and Tommy Lee Kidman.
