Burton South

August 11, 1933 — April 3, 2013

Burton L. South, 79, died peacefully at his home on April 3rd,2013 surrounded by his loving
family. He was the 4th child of Lorenzo Snow South and Ruth Amelia Biorn. He was born
August 11, 1933 in Ashton, Idaho. The family moved to Evanston in 1943 and he graduated
from Evanston High School in 1952. He served in the Korean Conflict, stationed in France.
While on leave, skiing in Switzerland, he met Evelyne Josiane Schmid. After being released
from the Army, he returned to Geneva Switzerland and married Evelyne on May 26, 1956.
Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
They made their home in Evanston where Burton was a partner in South & Jones Timber
Company. He loved his work, especially building roads and working in the mountains. He
loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing and mostly spending time with his family.
To this union was born four children: Eric, Kim, Cindy and Clay. He was a life- long member
of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in various callings, including;
Elder's Quorum President, Bishop, High Councilman, Councilor in the Stake Presidency,
High Priest Group Leader and Branch President of the Care Center. The highlight of his
church service was serving a mission with his sweet companion in the Canada Halifax
Mission from September 1999 to October 2000.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyne of Evanston; one son, Eric (Sherrie) South also of
Evanston. Two daughters; Kim (Scott) Hall of Eagar, AZ and Cindy (Dave) Matthews of
Evanston. Sixteen grandchildren, 19 1/2 great-grandchildren. Four sisters; Glenna Jones
and Gayle(Gordon) Stuart of South Weber, Connie (Jon) Lunsford and JoAnn (Gaylon)
Thornock of Evanston, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ren & Ruth South; one son, Clay Allen South; one
brother, Dan Lee South; one sister, Donna Dickerson; and two great-grandchildren; Afton
Cecile Blackham and Weston Bradley Buchanan.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evanston Stake Center, 1224 Morse Lee St.
Friends may call at the Crandall Funeral Home, 800 Uinta Street, on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services.   Interment will be in the Evanston City Cemetery.
The family would like to express their heartfelt love and gratitude for the tender care given
by Deb and Liz of Best Home Health and Hospice. Also, sincere thanks for the many family
and friends who have rendered so much loving service to our family over the last five
months.
