Brett Darrell Nilson, aka CAMEL
11/23/1958 – 1/21/2012
Brett has moved on, over the horizon to scout out new wildlife! He is loving his reunion with his grandma Gladys and other loved ones.
Brett was born in Salt Lake City to Darrell and Darlene Nilson. He earned his Eagle Scout Award at the age of 14, graduated from Highland High School in 1977 and the University of Utah in 1984 with a degree in Communications. Brett served an LDS mission in Atlanta, Georgia. And he married Lynne Post in the Salt Lake Temple in 1989. Brett was self-employed in the insurance business and loved his long time association with the Utah Jazz as a statistician.
Brett absolutely loved and adored his daughters Hanna “Boo-boo” and Hailey “Homee”. They were always his first priority and he never stopped bragging and talking about them. He was so proud of both their accomplishments in school and Hanna with rodeo and Hailey with dance. Everyone knew Brett was in the audience when the crowd heard “Boo-boo” or “Homee” loudly yelled across the place where one of his daughters was competing or performing. He was the loudest cheering fan in the crowd and still will be!
Brett loved wildlife and everything outdoors. He participated in river running, hunting, camping, fishing, bugling elk and horsebackriding. Brett is famous for his wildlife photography. We don’t believe any of his pictures actually had people in them. His favorite hobbies were playing cards, golfing, swimming and “loitering around” the mountains and town with his best friend.
Brett’s heart was as big as he was! He loved to laugh but thrived on making others laugh. Everyone that met Brett loved and remembered him. No one could tell a bigger, better story than him and he had tons and tons of friends!
Brett is survived by his daughters Hanna and Hailey; ex-wife Lynne; parents M. Darrell & Darlene Nilson; siblings: Vicki (Kim) Briggs, Pam (Paul) King, Charisse (Andy) Theurer, Dave Nilson; 14 nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:45 with services following at 12:00 noon on Friday January 27, 2012. Francis, Utah LDS Church – 387 West Frontier Lane, Francis Utah, 84036.
