Beverly Cox Smith, age 69, passed away May 24, 2022, in Elk Grove, California, in the loving care of her husband Sammie Smith. She was born April 2, 1953, the fifth daughter of Emerson and Helen Putnam Cox. A son would later be added to the family.
She grew up in Woodruff, Utah, enjoying the outdoors, skating on Woodruff Creek in the wintertime and helping on the Cox Ranch. She graduated from South Rich High School, having a special circle of life-time friends. She attended Weber State College graduating with an associate degree. She moved to Salt Lake City where she was employed at Shapiro Leather Goods and then at Primary Children's Hospital in the respiratory therapy department.
She married David Monson in the Salt Lake Temple. They added David Emerson, Andrew, Peter, and Jameson to their family. Her boys were her pride and joy. Beverly supported Dave as he finished his education. The Monson family moved to Puyallup, Washington for Dave's employment. Beverly loved the Washington State area and made many friends. She started a business called Beverly's Bounties where she made pies, cookies, jams, and jellies and sold them at farmers markets in the area. She also worked at the Honey House for many years. Beverly and Dave's marriage ended in divorce.
Beverly was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had an awesome testimony of Jesus Christ. She loved being a seminary and institute teacher. Her favorite calling was primary chorister. It was her privilege to serve in the Sacramento Temple. She ministered to everyone. She liked making connections with people.
In 2006, Beverly met Sammie Smith. Two special people were brought together via the internet. They were married in the Sacramento Temple on February 21, 2009. Sam became her " Cowboy". She moved to Elk Grove, California and made an amazing life with Sam, his children, grandchildren, ward members and friends. She was famous for giving big hugs and lifting people emotionally wherever she went. Beverly had a special relationship with her nieces and nephews. She was the "bestest " sister. March 2018 brought Beverly a diagnosis of breast cancer. She bravely endured surgeries and many treatments always hoping for a positive outcome. In recent weeks, many friends and loved ones gathered to her bedside to minister to her, but it was she who ministered to them.
A memorial was held in Elk Grove on June 2, 2022. There will be services in Woodruff, Utah on June 17, 2022. Family visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 with the funeral following at 12:00 noon. Beverly will be buried in the Woodruff Cemetery next to her beloved parents.
She is survived by her husband Sammie Smith, her children David E. Monson (Chantél), Andrew Monson, Peter Monson (Bonnijane), and Jameson Monson (Maile); her grandchildren, Sawyer, Kellan, Emerson and Aspen; Sam's children, Tami (Tony) Marsh, Jay Dee (Theresa) Smith, and Sammie Sanchez; grandchildren, Jake (Andrea), Daphne, Amina, Cassidy (Steven), Clair, Jack, Claudia, Zoee, Mckinley, Corbin, and Sienna; and siblings, Laura (John) Groll, Joy (Guy) Wymore, Pat (Bill) Bellamy, Janice (Larry) Tomkinson, and Bill (Cay) Cox.
Predeceased by her parents Emerson and Helen Cox and her stepdaughter Stacey Smith.
