Beva Maxwell

Beva Maxwell, age 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of May 19, 2021. Beva was born in Heber City, Utah on July 11, 1928 to Joseph A. Chapman and Melba Mc Affee, the first of five children. Beva lived all her life in Heber City, except for a few years in Park City. She was a tall redhead that liked to be outside. One summer she was hired to protect sheep by a local rancher. She would take her violin and a 22 rifle to ward off any predators. She indicated she had a lot of practice time with the violin and the rifle, but no need to shoot anything but tin cans. Beva married Bill Welch in October 1945 when she was 17 years old, and they spent their honeymoon deer hunting with extended family. The next five years were busy as Cheryl and Blaine were born. One of their first homes was a chicken coop that they cleaned out and remodeled into a one-room house. Beva and Bill lived in Park City in a small house at the top of main street in empire canyon.  The heavy snow winters of 1948-1950 provided encouragement to move to Heber City. They bought a new home on 600 east in May of 1951 and moved in June 1st. Beva played the piano and the violin and loved to sing. She joined the Coralettes, a local women’s choir, which she enjoyed greatly. Beva worked for First Security Bank, and automobile dealerships in Heber for many years. In 1968 her son became a casualty in the Viet Nam war and three years later Bill died. This time was difficult for her.  She took night classes in Provo, completing the requirements for her GED, as well as secretarial and office management.

After a long friendship, Beva married Roy Maxwell in November 1974. Beva and Roy loved dancing and would go to Park City for dinner and dancing. A few years after being married, Beva teamed up with Roy as his office manager for Maxwell Accounting. They worked together until his passing in 2010. Roy and Beva enjoyed taking their boat to Deer Creek Reservoir after work on summer evenings. They joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary and had a lot of fun with light parades on the water at night. Beva and Roy traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, and took cruises. Roy taught Beva to play golf. After he and Beva had been to Wasatch Mountain golf course, he would say, “Just another day in paradise.”

Beva is preceded in death by her son, Blaine A. Welch, two husbands, William (Bill) Welch, and Roy F. Maxwell. Beva is survived by her brother Nile Chapman, three sisters Joann Kohler, Alene Watson, and Karen Crook, children, Cheryl (Dale) Jones, Brent (Molly) Welch, Mitzi (John) Barber, and Lori (Gary) Pemberton, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.  At Mom’s request, a graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday May 25, 2021 at the Heber City Cemetery.
