Albert Smith Wagstaff, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully Friday, February 24, 2017 in Oakley, Utah. He was born in Murray, Utah on May 28, 1924 to Albert Leland and Josephine Smith Wagstaff, the only son with 5 sisters. The family moved to Kamas, Utah in 1925. Albert graduated from South Summit High School and studied Agriculture at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. He served as a medic in the Philippines and Japan during World War II. After the war, he returned home and then served a 2 year mission for the LDS church in the East Central States mission. Soon after returning from his mission, he met Dorothy Louise Willie who was teaching 2nd grade in the Kamas Valley. They married October 6, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Kamas, where he helped his dad run the Wagstaff Meadows Jersey Dairy Farm, which he eventually took over. He loved working with his hands and was a skilled carpenter and could fix pretty much anything. He was an avid gardener and loved to share his produce with friends and neighbors. He taught 4-H and served in many capacities both in the community and LDS church, including scout leader, Bishop, High Councilor and 28 years as a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple. He and Louise also served an 18 month mission to the Boonville, MO mission. They were married for 65 years before she passed away April 17, 2015.
Albert is survived by his six children; Dorothy (Blaine) Laney, David (Linda), Rebecca (Keven) Jackson, Karl (Debbie), Marcile (Randall) Howes, and Amy (Jim) Yost; 31 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren; sisters Josephine Wentz and Kate Bates.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kamas Utah LDS Chapel, 100 West Center Street. A viewing will be Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Marion Cemetery under the direction of Crandall Funeral Home, Kamas, Utah with military honors.
