Afton Jones Nelson died in Henefer, Utah after a battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on December 3, 1955 in Coalville, Utah to William Marchant and Flora Annetta Saxton Jones. Afton was raised in Henefer, Utah and attended the North Summit School District, graduating with the class of 1974.
Afton married Lynn W. Russell on November 15, 1974 in the Salt Lake Temple and was later divorced. After attending the “School of Hard Knocks” for 18 years. Afton attended Salt Lake Community College graduating in 1995 with an Associate Degree in Accounting.
Afton married the love of her life Ronald Isaac Nelson in an Indian Blanket Ceremony on April 29, 1998 in Tokeland, Washington. Ron and Afton were later sealed for time and all eternity on June 28, 2001 in the Seattle, Washington LDS Temple.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Afton served in the Relief Society, Sunday School, and Young Women’s. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and served in leadership positions in both the company and the camp.
Afton is survived by her loving husband Ronald; two sons Jesse W. Russell and John W. Russell; two grand-daughters Tresare Toni Martin and Marci Lynn Russell; brothers and sisters Rose Saxton, Warren Jones, Connie Jones, Jim and Ruth Jones, Wayne Jones, Charlie and Sara Nelson, Judy Nelson, Don and Mary Nelson, Bob and Christine Nelson, and Larry Nelson; loving friends and those that thought of Afton as another mother.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Marci Jae Russell, parents and her brother Wendel Jones.

Funeral services will be held at the Henefer LDS Church on Saturday July 11, 2015 at 12 noon. A viewing will also be held at the church on Friday July 10, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm as well as one hour prior to services on Saturday. Interment will be held directly following the funeral services at the Henefer Cemetery.
